Impact of Artificial Intelligence, Science & Technology On The Youth

Kids of this era are smarter than we used to be at this age, how so? When was the first time you ever used something related to artificial intelligence, which is now standard, but it wasn’t around the times we were hanging around swings and crawling on the floor? But artificial intelligence, science and technology for kids are like second nature to them, even before a child learns to speak or walk, knows how to operate a smartphone.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is the capability of a computer program or a mechanism to think and learn. It is also a ground of study which tries to make computers “smart”. John McCarthy came up with the name “Artificial Intelligence” in 1955.

In general use, the term “Artificial Intelligence” means a machine that imitates human cognition. At least some of the things we connect with other minds, such as learning and trouble solving, can be done by computers, though not in the same way we do. We use the term AI for successfully accepting human language, challenging at a high level in planned game systems (such as Chess and Go), self-driving cars, and interpreting complex data. Some people also consider AI a danger to humankind if it progresses unabatedly.

It’s quite often that we hear from our kids when a wave of boredom suddenly hits “can I use your phone?”, “can we play something fun?” this happened to us too. But our approach was to let’s go to the playground or let’s go to a friend’s house so we can play together, but times have changed, and the way of fun has evolved. Kids these days instead play games on their phones than to a friend’s house or out in the playground. So, to go with the flow, we must have them play something a little beneficial for them.

Similar to “killing two birds with a stone,” video games are useful for kids in various aspects.

Impact of New Technology on Children:

This matter is quite debatable as I touched earlier kids using modern technology is like second nature to them, but it really does cause some harmful effects, but on the contrary, it is quite beneficiary and the future only brings us more towards advanced technologies like artificial intelligence.

But the development in the science department has also brought many theories and facts that were needed for the proper development of a child’s mind and are super-efficient compared to methods used in the past.

“CRITICAL” and “CREATIVE” thoughts that should have been cooperated in the past were never used. Now, STEM structure is used in schools to motivate students to pursue technological studies in the future.

Many schools require some form of STEM education in classrooms, but you don’t have to be a teacher to teach your kid these activities.

What Are Science and Technology for Kids?

This question will arise in your mind, but the answer to them is quite simple: a business that has a big part of a technology element, which would include weather inquiry apps, science equipment used in classrooms like microscopes, computers and now a day’s smartboard rather than the old school chalkboard or whiteboards are used, they are significant parts of technology.

The Impact of Science and Technology on Kids is Tremendous

Children these days aren’t referred to as “digital natives” without reason. A report from Common Sense Media revealed that, in 2017, 42% of young children had their very own tablet—up from 7% in 2013 and less than 1% in 2011. At the same time, the average amount of time children spend with these handheld devices is skyrocketing, from 5 minutes a day in 2011 to 15 minutes a day in 2013, to 48 minutes a day in 2017.

However, the rapid pace by which kids & teens are adopting technology into their daily routine has much curiosity about its effects on their growth.

But I think that the positive effects overcome the negatives by a slightly larger curve. Some of the positive impacts of technical games and use of technology are mentioned below:

>> Enhances Learning Abilities:

Over the past few years, technology has become integrated into the classroom to enhance children’s learning experience. Technologies such as Smartboards, document cameras, Apple TVs, and even 3D printers are incorporated into educational lessons. It boosts collaboration and engages students in the learning process. With increased cooperation in the classroom, teachers and students have augmented creativity and project-based learning opportunities. It makes educational training more meaningful.

>> Increases attention span

Studies show that playing video games increases stimulations in the brain. Their focus and attention are already on their game, and as the game reaches its climax, it gets the difficulty level increases. In other words, logical & analytical games are quite superior for the brain, if the part where it causes addictions and misuse of time are ignored!

>> Improves Problem-Solving Skills:

“survival mode?” It’s a gameplay task in many kids’ video games where the player is tasked with staying energetic as long as possible to outlast opponents. For example, in the popular video game Mine craft, players are dropped into new and unusual environments. They must immediately build protection and collect items like food, to endure and outlive their opponents. Not to mention, an entire day in my craft lasts just 10 minutes, so players must quickly make the right decisions.

With these types of technologies, kids must work in competition to accomplish a specific goal.

In the process, they’re posed with different roadblocks and challenges, which they must learn to navigate and overcome. In turn, they’ll be encouraged to come up with their problem-solving solutions when facing real-life issues. Real-life issues can be homework trouble, disagreements with friends, or personal hardship, as well as technology-based obstacles.

The adverse effects of technology might be less but are incredibly dense.

>> Poor Social Skills

Nowadays, social gatherings sometimes can be scary for kids as they used to be alone. They are now socially awkward, and in some severe cases, some of them have social anxiety.

>> Health Issues

Excessive use of the internet and screen causes strain on the mind and body. Serious health issues such as nausea, headache, fatigue, and bad eyesight are pretty common effects

Kids can face the adverse effects of social media which are immense, depression, anxiety, insomnia is often these days. The authors of a 2016 systematic review discussed the link between social networks and psychological fitness issues, such as gloominess and nervousness.

Their research found mixed results. People who had more optimistic connections and public support on these platforms appeared to have inferior levels of gloominess and anxiety.

However, the reverse was also correct. People who supposed that they had more pessimistic social connections online and more prone to social judgment experienced higher levels of gloominess and anxiety.

>> Lack of Physical Activities

Most everyday digital technologies are sedentary. More comprehensive use of these technologies promotes a more inactive way of life, known to have harmful health effects, such as contributing to · chubbiness · cardiovascular disease

  • Type 2 diabetes
  • Premature death

Ruling ways to take breaks from sedentary technologies may help endorse a more active lifestyle.


From my perspective, science and technology for kids are a vital part, whether we like it or not. It depends upon us to create a proper mixture that is beneficial for our kid’s health. Prepare your kids for the future, which waits ahead of them, that future is filled with science and technology. So, they definitely should get a taste of what remains ahead for them.
